http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat

tonite i'm hanging upside
down i am a bat.
you are a swarm of gnats,
insects fucking for survival.
canned laughter skeletons
with painted frowns.
and i am right side down
turning my nose up at them.

tonite you are a wall
and i'm the brains.
hold me to it all
be nice to me: i own a bank.

i never said we could make it out, but even if i
were capable would it still be safe to try this?
to live a life less filthy, pleading guilty,
waiting for the police to
seal the exits and thus ending
whatever stand we thought we were making.

tonite the shit expects to
meet its long-lost fan.
and though i can barely stand,
i still manage to offend you.
in my belfry: ivory towers,
tender thoughts and haunted graves,
smile warmth about the day
i wrote you the one about the flowers.

tonite we're sulking and we're
self-medicated.
lean in so you can hear me:
things were so much--

i'll chalk it up, mark it an eight,
launch the spitball at the blackboard,
save the girl and stop the train,
add more numbers to my passwords.
until it all washes away,
i'm saving stones and trading teeth
and plucking insects from the sky
until there are no more to eat.
